Indian Room

The Indian Room is located in the basement in the Western Room along with the cabin where the first white child was born. Many pictures and artifacts are on show in this room.

Some of the artifacts are temporarily on display in the main gallery. Included are many items on loan for the Indian exhibit including finds from the Eastep archeological site and items from Matt Wren.

Many artifacts from that period are on display including a rare buffalo hide that was decorated by the indians in the area. It was used by Warner Studios in a movie.
There is a showcase which includes various three dimensional artifacts that demonstrate the history of travel in the country. It starts with the boats of the early explorers, the covered wagon, the river boats, and the stage coaches, and last the train.
There is an extensive collection of arrowheads.
There are a whole group of replicas of the Peace Medals given to the Indian Chiefs, plus many artifacts the Museum has collected over the years
